27 Sep – Rowley Shoals

27 September 2017

For some of these guys the Rowley Shoals had been on the bucket list for over 20 years. Luckily for them the shoals haven’t really changed in that time so the fishing and snorkelling was still just as good as it would have been back then.

One of the big aims for the trip was to get everyone a Sailfish. These spectacular fish are very hands on and can create chaos on the deck when it all happens. The art of switch baiting is a great technique to learn and once mastered is very satisfying but can be very frustrating to start.

The group enjoyed some great dinghy popper sessions targeting the wide range of reef species found at the shoals. I will let the photo’s below tell that story, and that’s only a few of them. The variety of fish is one thing that many anglers are amazed by. It is not unusual to catch over 30 different species in a trip.

We finished off by having another snorkel drift through the channel seeing some big trout and a herd of Double Hump Wrasse as well as hundreds of other small reef fish and corals. A great trip guys with lots of laughs, many funny stories and thankfully no injuries for Johnno.
