Doug and his 3 sons Brian, Steven and Michael had fished with us back in 2009 and this time joined us to help celebrate Doug’s 75th Birthday whilst fishing at Scott Reef. They bought along enough tackle to stock at least 2 tackle stores and were meticulous about how each lure was rigged and each knot was tied. These guys were serious and it paid off.
It is nice to look back on a trip and think of the highlights and when there are more highlights that you can mention you know it has been a good one. Some of the more memorable ones included an absolutely hectic half hour session where we had a quadruple hook up on Sailfish and still had Sails free swimming behind the boat, the video of this chaos is priceless.
The next one happened in one of the dinghies when Michael and Steven came across a pack of GT’s. They were thick on the surface and after looking at the footage were thick below the surface as well, both guys hooked up to good fish, Steven landed his first, a nice GT est at 25kg and then came Michaels, possibly one of the biggest GT’s we have ever landed measuring 140cm and est at over 50kg.
Another target at Scott Reef always seems to be Dogtooth Tuna, we had some wicked late afternoon popper sessions with big doggies following poppers and Stickbaits to the boat with the biggest one landed being a whopping 54kg beast for Brian.
As I said there were many other highlights but overall I think the biggest highlight was the 3 boys spending an awesome week fishing with their Dad. Doug in his 75th year caught some ripper fish including a nice GT that almost pulled him out of the boat, a 25kg Yellowfin, Wahoo, Dogtooth, Trout and many more. Actually I think he caught more fish than the boys!!!!
