There’s nothing like stacking around $100,000 worth of tackle onto your boat and then heading out to Scott Reef to see it in action. These guys bought along between them 32 outfits each averaging $2000 a piece, plus lures, plus terminal tackle, all good quality stuff. They were so keen to get out there that they didn’t even want to troll for marlin on the way out. Regardless we still put the lures out and got a nice Blue of approximately 150kg. All of them have done multiple trips with us before, the Rowley brothers Brian, Mick and Steve are from NSW and Mark, Mark & Johno are all Perth based.
Just about all the fishing we did was casting out of Reel Teaser or the dinghies. These guys are all good anglers and can all cast. They caught nearly 50 GT’s up to 40kg and over 100 Red Bass and many other species. We had a bit of wind from the south west which prevented us from fishing some of our areas but the breeze did make it cooler for casting. Yellowfin showed up in a few places which are always fun on surface lures. They had a great session one morning with fish up to 20kg leaping out of the water feeding whilst the boys threw poppers and stickbaits amongst the action. As you can imagine some of the lures got smashed on the surface. Our decky Critter landed the biggest Yellowfin on a popper at night whilst we were at anchor. The fish was estimated at 50-60kg and had those long trade mark sickles of a big fin.
As expected the boys lost a lot of tackle. These guys all cast extremely well and when they changed down to lighter tackle to give their arms a rest they got smashed up even more, not to mention at times some “bad angling skills” came into play. Even on the last morning session of only 3 hours they lost 12 lures, at least its expensive!! Great fishing guys, great to have you all onboard again. SKIP
