18 May – Kimberley

18 May 2016

For Tim this was his 8th year in a row with us and for Harry, Brian and Scott their 7th year in row. I guess this gives you an idea of just how much they enjoy their Barra fishing and what the Kimberley has to offer. Our main purpose of their trip each year is to target Barramundi. There are still a few in the group who are yet to achieve that Holy Grail, the metre fish!

The trip started and finished with great weather and the tides were perfect so the water clarity was very good most of the time. On some days we sighted good numbers of fish and all the guys had to do was put their lure in front of the fish and they were on. We went to one of our old spots just to check it out and sighted and caught a stack of fish. We opted to stay on and fish this same area the next day. It didn’t pay off catching only 4 Barra between the 2 dinghies so confirmed our theory that Barra do move on once they have been disturbed.

So after another great trip Harry was best on ground with the most and biggest Barra at 90cm. Geoff wasn’t far behind, Tim was consistent but fell short of his normal standard, Brian dropped a stack and was flogged by Harry on most days and Scotty did really well considering he only fished half days, giving the older boys the chance to catch up. Thanks again guys and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
