We welcomed back Jim, Tricia, Chris and Corrina for their 3rd Kimberley Barra Fishing Adventure. Armed with some new rods & reels (some overheads much to Ross’ delight) and plenty of lures the fierce competition started from the beginning. The terms were set, divisions to be Biggest Barra, Most Points scored for Barra, Girls V Boys, Ireland’s V Wenzel’s and lastly Jimco V Chrisicia.
Fishing started well with 6 Barra being caught in the first quick afternoon session. The drinks were flowing and amongst all the cheer Chris made an announcement that he was going to catch a metre Barra tomorrow. The metre Barra is the Holy Grail to all Barra fishers and believe me they are not that easy to come by. Well the next day he didn’t catch a metre Barra he caught a 105cm Barra which gave him huge points on the scoreboard and rocketed him to the lead.
The fishing continued with some exceptionally good days and some rather quiet ones too. This has to be expected when it comes to fishing for Barra as they are not an easy species to target. Everyone tried to beat Chris’ catch but the only longer fish turned out to be whopping 15kg 125cm Mulloway to Jim. Tricia caught some beautiful Threadfin Salmon, the biggest being over 90cm and some nice Queenies were landed too.
Although Chris held the title for the biggest Barra, Corrina’s consistent catch rate saw her jump ahead in numbers and points to take out the Most Points scored for Barra title. This in turn helped the girls take out the Girls V Boys title and the Wenzel’s flogged the Ireland’s. The last division came down to a decision between points and numbers so a coin was tossed and Chrisicia won on points.
