This was supposed to be a relocation trip from Exmouth to Broome but due to unstable weather systems around Broome and Rowley Shoals we opted to fish around Exmouth and Monte Bello’s instead. We definitely made the right call and were lucky to have very good weather for the majority of our trip.
We were able to target a variety of species. One highlight was Wing’s est. 250kg Blue Marlin which was landed on the second day. The Blue Marlin fishing around Exmouth was extremely quiet this year compared to previous ones. There were good numbers of small Black Marlin around though and as Toke put it, “The Juvies are more fun anyway!”.
We spent some time targeting reef fish as the eating fish were almost more important than the sports fish. Wing was on fire catching some impressive Coral Trout. Colin redeemed himself after a slow start (we wont mention why it was a slow start!!).
Colin did become known as the squid whisperer and provided a number of nice squid which were also converted into dinner. We enjoyed some great feeds including salt & pepper squid, sashimi mackerel, coral trout fish head curry but the highlight for Toke, Wing & Colin had to be the whole steamed Barramundi Cod provided by Critter as a surprise treat on our first night.
Another great trip with fantastic company, lots of laughs and fun. See you all next time..
